Best Books of 2014
I’ve always enjoyed reading, but within the last year I’ve become an avid reader: I always have a book on hand. I love talking about books. I had to expand my bookshelves. Moreover, I now consider myself a reader.
My reading in 2014 turned intense. I doubled my consumption and I loved every minute of it. Here are the numbers:
Books read in 2014
20 graphic novels
2 adult fiction
15 picture books
25 young adult lit
17 professional development
15 notable short stories
18 notable poems
3 nonfiction
5 middle grades
9 classics
For a grand total of
129 pieces of literature
Out of the 129, 81 were chapter books (excluding picture books, poems, and short stories) which beat last year when I read 75 chapter books.
Number of pages read in 2014:
22,929
I read 5,327 more pages than I did last year.
With all my reading, I read some really great stuff. Now, without further adieu, here are my top picks.

Kelsey- Congratulations on a great year of reading! I have gotten a lot of recommendations from your post. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, that’s great; I love recommending books. Best of luck to you and your reading in 2015!
I’ve just started reading Noggin. I’m looking forward to reading Winger and Reading in the Wild this year. I too loved This One Summer and The Fourteenth Goldfish.
Are you liking Noggin so far? It wasn’t what I thought it would be, but I still liked it. I think it was an accurate depiction of teenagers.
I liked so much about Noggin http://dickenslibrary.blogspot.ca/2015/01/noggin-by-john-corey-whaley.html
That’s great! It’s an interesting story for sure. I want to read his other novel now.
The Fault in Our Stars and Crank are on my to-read list. I just hope I can get any done with the sadistic amount of work I’m getting this semester.
They’re so good! Try to make time, and I hope your professors aren’t too sadistic! Best of luck this semester, Michael.
Love remembering all our learning together this year through your list of favorites and getting some ideas for more books I need to read! Not that I really need more books to read….
The to-read list always grows and the read list never grows fast enough! I got a lot of book recommendations from your best books of the year post too.
